What Speed Do I Need?
Internet speeds ultimately depend on what each customer is doing with their Internet connection. If one person is doing the tasks below on the internet, that user will need at least the following internet download speed in megabits per second (Mbps). When Will I Get Fiber?
Want faster Internet speeds? Then you need fiber.
While many communications providers brag about utilizing “fiber” in their networks, unless they provide it all the way to the home, they do not compare. Millry Communications is constructing high-speed fiber optics all the way to your home or business. Fiber to the home (FTTH) is the delivery of a communications signal over fiber optics to a home or business. This fiber will replace the existing copper infrastructure. Fiber to the home is a method of providing higher bandwidth to consumers and businesses, which enables more robust Internet and voice services.
Connecting homes directly to fiber optic cable enables large improvements in the bandwidth that can be provided to consumers. Current fiber optic technology can provide two-way transmission speeds of up to 1,000 megabits per second. Further, ongoing improvements in fiber optic equipment are constantly increasing available bandwidth without having to change the fiber. That’s why fiber networks are said to be “future proof.”

Do I have to have phone service?
In our regulated exchange areas we participate in a national tariff that regulates broadband services. At this time the tariff does not offer Internet service without a phone line.
Will fiber change how my current services work?
Unlike phone service over copper cables, fiber to the home does not power your voice service directly. Phone service provided with our state-of-the art fiber optics requires electric power to operate. To avoid a disruption of voice service during a power outage – and to maintain the ability to connect to 911 emergency services or any other calls from your landline phone – you will need battery backup or a generator.
Will anything need to be mounted to my house?
Yes, a box called an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) will be mounted on the exterior of your house. It contains the electronics that convert a signal of light from the fiber into usable phone and Internet. In addition, there will be a box installed in your home or business and connected to a power outlet to supply power to the ONT.
What is fiber?
Optical fiber is a hair-thin strand of glass, specially designed to trap and transmit light pulses. The fiber uses light instead of electricity to carry a signal. It is unique because it can carry high bandwidth signals over long distances without signal degradation, and it can provide those signals simultaneously in both directions – upload and download. Copper media can also carry high bandwidth, but only for a few hundred yards – after which the signal begins to degrade and bandwidth narrows. Optical fiber has been used in communications networks for more than 35 years, mostly to carry core telecom traffic from city to city or country to country.
Is a 100% fiber network really necessary?
We have no reason to believe that innovation in Internet applications and services will ever slow down. In fact, all signs point toward their acceleration as high-definition video, telemedicine, distance learning, telecommuting and many other broadband applications come to market. Only fiber to the home is going to be able to deliver the bandwidth we are going to need far into the future.

Can I get internet service without a phone line?
At this time, we do not offer landline internet service without a phone line.
My internet is not working properly. What can I do?
Please DO NOT RESET your modem. A simple restart to your modem could save you a call to customer service.
- Disconnect the device you are using from the internet.
- Turn off your modem for at least 10 seconds.
- Check for any loose cables.
- Turn your modem back on and wait 1-3 minutes for it to reboot.
- Try reconnecting your device to the internet connection.

My internet speed seems slow. What are some factors that may be affecting my internet speed?
Visit www.speedtest.net to run a speed test. Please note that internet speeds listed on your plan are best effort maximum download speeds. Actual speed may vary at any time. If your speed is significantly lower than the maximum speed, please contact our Customer Service department.
There are a variety of factors that can affect Internet speed, such as the computer you are using, its processor, how many programs you have open at the time you are browsing online, and whether your computer has been infected with spyware or viruses. You can check your current speed here.
Each of these conditions can have an impact on the speeds you are experiencing as well as the overall traffic on the Internet. The number of devices sharing the same network, as well as potentially faulty external devices, such as routers, can also affect performance.
What should I do if my internet isn't running fast enough?
For normal household usage, if uploading large amounts of data while downloading simultaneously, the router cannot respond for delivery of download content. The full download speed will not be available at the same time the full upload speed is being utilized.
Run a speed test.

- We recommend that you run the test several times at different times of day for an accurate sampling.
- Please let us know if your download speed does not reflect the tier of service to which you subscribed.
Multiple devices on the same connection in your household, running programs on your computer, an older computer, having a firewall installed, virus and malware, and the amount of network traffic can all affect your speed test results.
Millry Communications provisions our modems and network to provide our customers the speed to which they subscribed. However, we cannot guarantee that you will achieve those speeds at all times. If you have run the speed test and are not completely satisfied with the results, please let us know so that we can ensure your service is working correctly. Call us at 888-227-5710.
What adversely affects my internet speed?
Performance over a Wi-Fi connection is impacted by a number of things outside of Millry Communications’ control.
1. Multiple devices on the same connections can affect your speed. The internet connection will be shared between all of the devices. If there is more than one device using the internet connections, it will slow down the connection to the other devices.
2. Age of device. Older devices are sometimes unable to utilize the speeds delivered.
What do I do if I'm unable to access the internet?
Inability to access the internet can be caused by a variety of reasons and may originate from either inside or outside your home. Here are a few simple troubleshooting steps:
- If you have multiple devices connected to the internet, check to make sure your device is not the only one that is not connecting. If it is the only one, try power cycling your device.
- Check the physical connection from the wall/modem to your wireless router and make sure all cables are properly secured.
- Power cycle your modem (if applicable) and your router. Power cycling often helps to re-establish an internet connection.

How does satellite technology work?
This is how Viasat satellite internet works:
1. You click on your favorite website using your laptop or mobile device. Your request goes to your Viasat modem, then through a short cable to the dish outside your home.
2. The dish installed at your home beams your request up to our satellite.
3. Our satellite sends your website request down to a gateway station connected to our ground network.
4. The station relays your request to your favorite website.
5. The website delivers the information you requested back to the station, which sends it up to our satellite to be sent directly to you.
What activities are not ideal with satellite internet?
Where is Viasat internet available?
Viasat Internet is available to most of the U.S. population, including in remote and rural areas where other internet companies offer slower service, or no service at all.

What is latency?
Does Viasat offer unlimited data plans?
Viasat’s Unleashed service plans come with Unlimited Data. If your data usage is trending to exceed the “typical usage” of a residential user on our network, you may have reduced priority during times of network congestion resulting in slower speeds. Typical usage currently means usage trending to not exceed 850 GBs in any 30-day period. The typical usage amount will vary based on network demands.
Viasat’s Unlimited 12 service plans include a set amount of High-Speed Data and unlimited Standard Data. Unlimited Standard Data kicks in after you’ve used up your monthly High-Speed Data and during this time, you may experience slower speeds if the network is congested, such as in the evening. When the network is not congested, your service speeds won’t be affected, even if you have used all your High-Speed Data. You can always buy more High-Speed Data before or after you’ve reached your limit. High-Speed Data can be purchased at any time during the month, but your data counter resets on the first day of each new billing cycle and you will lose any unused additional purchases of High-Speed Data at such time.
